Welcome!

I’m Angelie Melzer

I’m a passionate master Pilates instructor, educator, & former prima ballerina who believes in the power of movement to overcome physical limitations.

I have had the privilege of learning from the greats and putting the principles of Pilates into practice, both personally and professionally, to life changing results.

My Mission: I help pilates instructors become more effective and truly difference making to their clients.

my timeline

▸ 1978

- Diagnosed with Scoliosis.

- Discovered by my mom while leaning over the bathtub.

- Mom had had a full spinal fusion (C7-L5) at the age of 12 and diligently checked all of her children for Scoliosis as we grew.

▸ 1980

- Given an electrical stimulation unit to wear on my back 8-12 hours a day during sleep.

- Resulted in nerve damage and hearing loss in my right ear.

- To this day, if a high-pitched noise is near my right side, it causes my back to contract as if the electrical stem unit is still on my back.

▸ 1984

- Received my first back brace and 2 cm heel lift for my shorter left leg.

- Three months later, I received a new back brace as the first was deemed “unsatisfactory”.

- An increase in decompensation to approximately  2.5 centimeters was noted after wearing the first brace for 20-22 hours a day (only removed for bathing).

▸ 1986

- Offered a position as an Apprentice Member of the Colorado Ballet Company (at age 12) and began dancing professionally.

- Again advised on spinal fusion of L2-5 to ensure the curve did not progress as I entered into puberty. (My mother refused and began to seek alternative options. )

-Discovered a Physical Therapist in Denver, CO who was also certified in the Pilates Method.  Began my Pilates journey on the Ladder Barrel to decompress the facet joint spaces and elongate my spinal column with eventual progression onto Reformer work.

▸ 1988

- I began to experience popping within my hip joint.

- We saw a specialist who offered injections in this area or “surgical lengthening of the tendon.”  We did not return to this Doctor.

- I began working 5 days a week on my Pilates and was introduced to Gyrotonic®️ (at age 14).

▸ 1991

- X-ray taken out of the brace revealed me having a thoracic curve of 18 and lumbar of 26, compared to in the brace measuring only 16 degrees.

- I traveled to New York City while dancing and met Romana Kyronowski.  Studied with Romana periodically when my touring and travels to NYC allowed.

- As an emancipated adult, I decided to abandon “modern medicine” (further x-rays & monitoring).  I wanted to continue my path without the “worry” that came from waiting to get my next round of x-rays to determine just how badly my spine had done the previous year.

▸ 2020

- Fast forward to today, I have had a successful professional ballet career, performing and teaching professionally throughout my 3 pregnancies and well into my 40’s…perhaps 50’s if all goes well!  I have a successful Pilates Studio, Pilates Mentorship course and ongoing speaking engagements!

- AND I AM SURGERY FREE IN BOTH MY SPINE AND HIPS!

- I am a fervent believer in the power of Pilates, movement and persistence to restore function and promote healing and have made my life's work in teaching the skills of healing to future generations.
